Orthoptic clinic

 

 

Orthoptics literally means 'straightening of eyes". It refers to the diagnostic & therapeutic methods in the detection of & quantification of ocular deviation. 

 

The orthoptics clinic is a part of the Squint clinic & is equipped with 


Synoptophore which is used to measure the angle of the squint, to measure the grades of binocular vision & give orthoptic & macular stimulation exercises.

 

 

The hess screen is used to diagnose paralytic squints 
The RAF ruler is used for measuring convergence.
Diplopia charting - In cases of paralytic squints the patient develops diplopia (double vision). This test charts the diplopia & helps in identification of the muscle involved. 
Prism bar testing. - For quantification of squints.

 

 

TNO random dot test for evaluation of 3D vision.

 

 

Maddox rod for detection & quantification of manifest & latent squints at distance fixation
Bagolini striated glass test – to diagnose very small angle squints (microtropia). Also helps in sensory evaluation.
