What is lasik? |
 |
Lasik (Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomilieusis) is a 193 nm eximer laser pro cedure, which can reshape the cornea to micro metre precision. It is the most accurate and safe method to treat short sight (myopia), long sight (hypermetropia) and cylindrical
powers (astigmatism). |
 |
Is lasik better than contact lens? |
 |
Although contact lenses are cosmetically better than spectacles; difficulty in maintenance and incidence allergy makes its use cumbersome. The economic liability on a person using contact lens for 5 years is same as that of lasik surgery. |
 |
How is lasik done? |
 |
Lasik is a simple daycare procedure. After anaesthetizing the eye with drops an automated microkeratome raises a flap of superficial
cornea. A 193 nm cold laser is applied to the stromal bed. This sculpts and remodels the cornea so that the refractory error is neutralized. |
 |
How much refractory error can be corrected by
lasik? |
 |
-
Short
sight (myopia) upto 18D
-
Long sight( Hypermetropia) upto +6D
-
Cylindrical power (Astigmatism) upto +-6D
|
 |
What are the advantages of
lasik? |
 |
-
Normal, high quality vision
-
High degree of predictability
-
Fast recovery time
-
Takes only 15 minutes
-
Both eyes can undergo treatment in the same sitting
-
No need of bandage
-
No need of hospital stay
-
Virtually Painless

What is special about lasik in ahalia? |
 |
The Zyoptix Laser work station at
Ahalia, is a wave front Lasik. It involves tailoring the excimer laser treatment to very small visual irregularities. These are called higher order aberrations that are specific to each person. Custom wave front Lasik technology takes information from corneal topography maps, and from an instrument called an aberrometer (also called wave front analyzer) and feeds it directly into the laser. Wave front Lasik surgery will correct your refractive error and will also correct the very small optical irregularities that are found not only on the cornea, but also through the entire eye. These advances in technology mean that every patient can be treated as a special case. This technology helps the patient achieve, what is called as super vision. |

Who can undergo LASIK? |
 |
|
 |
Any special precautions to be taken before laser? |
 |
-
Advisable to clean the eye lids with baby shampoo 1 week prior to the procedure
-
Usage of perfumes, flowers to be avoided on the day of surgery
-
Contact lenses to be discontinued prior to
lasik. soft lens-2 wks,semisoft-3 wks, hard lens-4 wks.
|
 |
What is the post lasik care? |
 |
-
Eye drops should be used as per direction
-
Eye should not be rubbed vigorously
-
Head should not be bathed for 3 days
-
Eye should be protected from bright light and dust by wearing dark glasses.

 |
Is lasik a safe and permanent treatment? |
 |
Lasik is a safe and accurate treatment, for the vast majority of patients. |
 |
When can I resume my normal activities? |
 |
Can be resumed after 24 hrs but it is advisable after 72 hrs. |
