The most modern method of surgery is by phacoemulsification where a 3mm cut is made in the eye and cataract is made into small pieces by ultrasonic waves & washed. Following this a foldable Intraocular lens (IOL) is inserted into the eye through this small cut.

It is a small incision, No stitch, No injection (selected cases), early recovery, day care operation.

It is not compulsory that a bystander is required, but advisable. Patient himself can drive back home after surgery, but not recommended

Yes, detailed examination of the eye, by the eye doctor, to rule out any other contraindications for operation. Also, Scanning and Keratometry to calculate the required power of the IOL, need to be done. Also, any systemic illness needs to be ruled out by the physician.

Avoid wearing any makeup on the day of surgery & also for at least 10 days after surgery. Please stop using contact lens before operation. 1 week prior - in case of soft contact lens & 2 weeks prior in case of hard lens.

No, Phacoemulsification is usually done under Local / Topical medications only. Most patients experience gentle pressure and not pain during operation. 

It takes approximately 30-40 minutes for phacoemulsification.

The vision may be blurred temporarily following operation because of the medications that dilate the pupil & the bright light of the microscope.

Usually, No. But, it is required for reading or near work, if opted for single focus lens. Patients who require precise distance vision also, do better with both near and distant vision glass.
