Completed his Postgraduate training from B.J Medical college Pune, Maharastra, by securing Gold Medal in the DOMS examination. He is also “Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons” Glasgow, United Kingdom. He did his “Fellowship in General Ophthalmology” at Aravind Eye Hospitals, Tamilnadu.

He then worked as Senior Consultant at Aravind Eye Hospitals, Tamil Nadu, for a period of 6 years in the Department of Cataract & Vitreoretina. During this period he was actively involved is training and teaching National & International Ophthalmologists in Small Incision Cataract Surgery & Phacoemulsification. He has many national & international Papers and publications to his credit. He has conducted CME Programmes and instruction courses and coauthored two textbooks in Ophthalmology. He was the invited faculty at TNOA conference, Ooty and SICS workshop at Calcutta at aegis of the West Bengal Ophthalmic Society. He has also “provided Consultancy services and training to the Lions Sight First Eye Hospital”, Lilongwe, Malawi, Africa organized by the International Eye Foundation, USA, 1999. 

He was “Invited faculty for surgical demonstration at the VI th Ophthalmological Congress of SAARC countries” at Kathmandu, Nepal, 1999. He has also “Provided Consultancy services for planning an Eye Hospital” at Kitwe, Zambia, 2001. He has also worked as Chief Consultant Ophthalmologist in a Super Speciality Hospital for two years in Malappuram District, Kerala. Presently he is the Medical Director, AFEH and Heads the Department of “Cataract & Phacoemulsification Services”.

Completed his Postgraduate training from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Later he worked as consultant at private Missionary Hospital in Kerala for about one & half Years. He later underwent short term “Phaco Fellowship Programme” at Lotus Eye Care Hospital,Coimbatore. He also underwent “short-term training with observership in Refractive Surgery” at Singapore National Eye Centre, Singapore. He has presented papers in national conferences and has publications in Index Journals He is presently Consultant in “Cornea & Refractive Services” at AFEH.

Completed his Postgraduation from Govt. Medical College Aurangabad. Later he completed his “Fellowship in VitereoRetina” from Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, Tamilnadu for one & half years,. He later worked as a Consultant in Vitereo Retinal Services, Sri Ganapathi Netralaya, Jalana, Maharasthra for 6 years. During this Period he has presented many papers in boths National & International conferences and conducted instruction courses for Local Ophthalmologists. He has also done a Short-term observership at Academic Medical Centre, Amsterdam, The Netherlands and at University Hospital, Essex, Germany in 2003. Presently, he is the Senior Consultant and Heads the Department of Vitreo Retinal services at AFEH.

Completed his postgraduate training at Darbhanga Medical College, Bihar. He then did his two years “Fellowship in Anterior Segment & IOL microsurgery with one & half month in Orbit & Oculoplasty “at Aravind Eye Hospitals, Tamilnadu. During this period he was involved in training SICS for Ophthalmologists within country and abroad. He has also undergone short term” contact lens training” at Venu Eye institute, New Delhi. He has also done a” short term fellowship in Phacoemulsification” at R.P. Centre of Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi. He worked as a consultant for 6 months at private hospitals in Kerala. He is presently Consultant, ‘Cataract & Phacoemulsification Services’, at AFEH.

Completed his postgraduate training at Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Science (VIIMS), Karnataka. He worked as senior resident / Tutor for two years and completed his DNB training from Aravind Eye Hospitals, Tamilnadu. He has undergone a short term” contact lens training (ICLEP)” at L.V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad. Later, he underwent a short term” Laser Training in Diabetic Retinopathy” at Aravind Eye Hospitals, Tamilnadu. He worked as a Consultant at K. G Eye Hospital, Coimbatore, for about one & half years and as a Senior Eye Surgeon at Lions Eye Hospital (Sight Savers) Karnataka, for two years. He later did a short term Observership in “Orbit & Oculoplasty’ at National health Services, Cheltenham & Glouctershire Eye Hospitals, United Kingdom. Later he worked as a consultant in Private Hospital, Kerala. Presently he is Consultant, General Ophthalmology, at AFEH.

Dr. Somshekar N. MD, Consultant Ophthalmologist in Ahalia Foundation Eye Hospital, completed his M.B.B.S from Karnataka institute of Medical Science, Hubli, Karnataka. He then did his M.D in Ophthalmology from Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, New Delhi. He then did his senior residency in the field of Cornea and Refractive Services under Prof. R.B. Vajpayee in the same institute. He has done number of presentations and was involved in training and teaching Ophthalmologists about Phaco Emulsification during National workshops conducted in AIIMS. He has also done National workshops in Cornea and refractive surgery. He has written a chapter on Phaco Emulsification in Corneal Opacities in the book named “Phaco Emulsification” authored by Prof. R.B. Vajpayee.At Present he is working in Ahalia Foundation Eye Hospital as an Expert in Phaco Emulsification, LASIK and Cornea.
